Visions of Wonder Vol 1-3 DVD
Tommy Wonder
Before viewing this set of DVDs, I had never seen Tommy Wonder perform. My only encounter with his material was from his book and this (I hate saying it now) I found pretty dry and hard going. Watching the man in action however is a revelation. The magic is strong almost to the point of being too good (and yes I really do mean that) and Tommy's presentations are immaculate.
The magic in this collection covers close-up and stage and varies in skill from easy to advanced. I guarantee you will find something in here that you will add to your repertoire. I also guarantee that there is some stuff that you will never perform (even though you will want to). The Nest of Boxes (a borrowed watch vanishes and reappears inside a nest of boxes that Tommy NEVER TOUCHES!) is possibly the most complex trick ever devised - even the unflappable Max Maven (acting as host for the teaching sections) starts to giggle at the devious complexity of the trick halfway through. Don't let this put you off though, by the end of the explanations you will be itching to get your toolkit out and try to build it.
Tommy brings a deep love of detail to his magic and his Cups and Balls routine is loaded (pun intended) with touches and grace notes that make it original and beautifully logical. Even his thoughts on the much (and in my opinion wrongly) derided Zombie Ball will make you look at the effect again.
The DVDs are also crammed with extras such as behind the scenes footage, archive clips and audience reactions. A very classy package of a very classy magician!
